Deep Tropics – Nashville’s Newest Fest

The Southeast is home to many festivals and events. Even just the state of Tennessee hosts some of the biggest music festivals across the entire country. They range from the mammoth and mother of all US fest, Bonnaroo (Lollapalooza is the dad and Coachella is the rich aunt), to the megga country fest, CMA Music Festival. Those are great, and definitely help to boost the economy and bring world wide musical talent to region, but some of the smaller events are more dear to our hearts. A small group of hardworking dreamers is set to produce one of these special events, Deep Tropics, on August 5 & 6 at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium. They are still unfolding what to expect at the inaugural event but here’s a few highlights that have peaked our interests!

THE MUSIC

Although a small lineup – the fest will only have 2 stages – but they will be packed with talent, as organizers have paid close attention to up and coming artists and hot trends in the electronic scene. Headliners include Gramatik, Bob Moses, Paper Diamond, Troyboi, Barclay Crenshaw, The Polish Ambassador, Mija, SNBRN, The Gaslamp Killer, Sango….wait…their whole lineup is headliners!

It’s certain many of the artists on the lineup will have incredible sets but I’m personally most excited about Barclay Crenshaw (the birth name and side project of Dirtybird leader, Claude VonStroke), Machinedrum, The Gaslamp Killer, and Sango! The big wildcard of the lineup is the Desert Hearts Crew – I really have no idea what they could have in store!

THE EXPERIENCE

Deep Tropics will offer other experiences like a Tranquil Temple, a Courtyard Art Gallery, and more. Local and national artists will have a platform to share their creations. The festival boasts that attendees will “discover a deeper sense of self, a deeper connection with community and a deeper experience through music and art” – the reason for the name is becoming clear!

About the Author

Since the first festival I went to, it's been pretty clear that I have a serious obsession. I have been playing this game where I see if I can take advantage of every drop of happiness at any given festival and have the best time possible. Happiness can come in any form-music, art, community, friends, even nature. It's a great game! Maybe I can teach ya how to play...
